Best Flashlights and Lanterns of 2018

Overwhelmed by options? We know that choosing a flashlight or lantern can be a daunting task, so we came up with a no-nonsense list of our favorite lights of 2018, all of which are available for purchase at Redwood Trading Post.


Best all-around rechargeable handheld light:

Fenix UC35. This versatile, USB rechargeable flashlight boasts 960 lumens at its maximum output. It has five light output options, plus a strobe setting. One rechargeable 18650 battery is included with the flashlight, but if you've already stocked up on 123A lithium batteries, not to worry--it will run on two of those, too!




Best budget rechargeable flashlight:

NEBO Slyde King. This micro USB rechargeable light has a 330 lumen max output, a 40 lumen red light, and 250 lumen worklight, for both spot and area lighting. The worklight is concealed inside the flashlight body, and automatically turns on when opened. Crafted with anodized aircraft-grade aluminum, this light is durable and impact resistant. Its magnetic base allows for hands-free use





Best tactical flashlight:

The Fenix TK20R is a compact yet powerful light, with a 1000-lumen max output. Aircraft-grade aluminum casing makes this light incredibly durable, and its five output options (including strobe) make it one of the most versatile in its class. The TK20R is micro-USB rechargeable, and will run on the provided 18650 battery, or you can also use two 123A lithium batteries.



Brightest hand held light:

The Fenix TK72R is the brightest of its kind. It features an incredible 9000 lumen maximum output, adjustable from 100-9000 lumens. The OLED screen display will show you the current lumen output, remaining battery level and run time. This beast of a flashlight is rechargeable via micro-USB and comes with a 7.2/7000mAh Li-ion battery pack.

Longest throw for a handheld:

With a brilliant 1300 lumen max output and impressive 700 meter distance reach, the Fenix TK47 has four output options, and the tailcap has a wide-range area light for close up work. The TK47 runs on two 18650 rechargeable batteries and is made of durable aluminum.




Compact tent/backpacking lantern:

The Goal Zero Crush Light is rechargeable via USB or built-in solar panel. This lantern features 35 hours of runtime on its lowest output, and boasts 60 lumen output on its highest. It crushes flat for compact storage, and is incredibly portable, weighing in at just 3.2 oz.









All-around tent light:

The weather-resistant Fenix CL30R features 5 output levels, with 650 lumen max output. It runs on one, two, or three 18650 rechargeable batteries, and charges using micro USB technology. Additionally, this lantern has a USB output port, enabling it to recharge other devices.
